Council and housing-body tenant help
Get the right action and escalation order without confusing council tenancy rules with Approved Housing Body rights.
Recommended order
Step 1
Report it to the landlord service
Use the repairs, tenancy or housing service named in the tenancy agreement. Give the exact problem, risks, dates and access arrangements, and ask for a reference number.
Step 2
Create a written evidence trail
Confirm calls by email or letter. Keep dates, reference numbers, photographs, inspection reports and copies of replies. Do not upload personal case material to SupportCheck.
Step 3
Use the council’s formal complaint process
If the service request is unresolved, make a clear written complaint to the council. State the outcome sought and attach only necessary evidence. Complete any internal review or appeal available.
Step 4
Consider the independent Ombudsman
After giving the council a reasonable chance to resolve the complaint and normally completing its process, the Ombudsman may examine unfair administration by a public body.
